Women in Demining: From Training to Professional Opportunities
A representative of SGS attended a strategic meeting held within the framework of the UN Women Ukraine programme “She Demines”, implemented in partnership with the Ukrainian Deminers Association, NGO “Girls” and BBC Media Action, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The event brought together financial partners, state institutions, partner organizations and mine action operators to discuss the programme’s results and the next steps to expand women’s participation in humanitarian demining.
The discussions focused on developing partnerships, identifying the staffing needs of the sector, creating practical employment opportunities for programme graduates, and ensuring a safe, inclusive and gender-responsive working environment.
During the meeting, UN Women presented the results of an online survey on the sector’s need for women specialists in operational positions. The survey, conducted in March 2026, demonstrated significant potential for expanding women’s engagement in mine action: 28 non-governmental mine action operators expressed their readiness to cooperate with programme participants.
For SGS, participation in such discussions is important, as the development of the humanitarian demining sector requires professionalism, equal opportunities, partnership and safe working conditions for both women and men.
Such meetings help strengthen cooperation between the state, international partners, mine action operators and civil society to support the development of a more inclusive and resilient demining sector in Ukraine.
