We’ll never tire of repeating it: Don’t approach! Don’t touch! Call 101!

We’ll never tire of repeating it: Don’t approach! Don’t touch! Call 101!

SGS representatives took part in a meeting of the Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) Working Group. Participants discussed progress on the draft national EORE standard and a report by the Secretariat of the National Mine Action Authority on incidents involving civilians.

The figures presented at the meeting were sobering. The largest number of casualties — 433 people — fell under the category of improper handling of explosive ordnance. That is approximately 1.6 times the number recorded in the next category: agricultural activities, with 271 casualties. Demining ranked eighth among the twelve categories.

Behind every figure is a person. These findings show why risk education must remain an ongoing part of mine action. People need clear, practical guidance on how to recognize danger and respond safely: do not approach or touch a suspicious object, move away, and alert the appropriate authorities.

SAFE land. GROUND for the growth. SOLUTIONS for the future.
