The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, together with the National Standardization Body, has developed and introduced into the “Ukrainian Classifier of Regulatory Documents” (NC 004:2020) a new standardization code – 99.00 “Mine Action. Humanitarian Demining”. This will allow developing and adopting standards taking into account a set of components in the field of mine action.

“Until now, standards in mine action were developed within the framework of a technical subcommittee working in the field of defense. Accordingly, such components as information about the dangers of explosive objects, training on the prevention of risks associated with explosives, educational work, etc. could not be taken into account. We are finally modernizing the approach and moving from patching holes to systematic work in accordance with the best international practices,” said Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Ihor Bezkaravayny.

The Ministry of Economy has also launched the work of the organizing committee to create a new technical standardization committee with the participation of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Emergency Service, the Mine Action Center and the Humanitarian Demining Center. The technical committee will work under the code “Mine Action. Humanitarian Demining” and will develop new standards in the field of humanitarian demining.

For reference

In accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Standardization”, standards are developed by technical standardization committees. Currently, standards in the field of mine action are developed within the framework of the work of the subcommittee “Standardization in the Field of Mine Action” of the technical committee, which is assigned to such standardization objects as ammunition and mines, which are a type of weapons.
