The government simplified the return of mine-contaminated agricultural land to use - Svyridenko

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yuliya Svyridenko, reported that the government has adopted a decision that will allow for a faster return to circulation of agricultural plots that are actually used despite the legal status of potentially contaminated by mines.

According to her, changes have been made to the Procedure for surveying areas that have benefits due to potential mine contamination. From now on, local authorities will check whether such land is being used as intended, and relevant data will be transmitted to the Center for Humanitarian Demining. Mine action specialists will conduct a non-technical survey to confirm or deny contamination. If the plot is actually cultivated, tax benefits will be canceled. "Each hectare of Ukrainian land must be used effectively," Svyridenko emphasized.

The Prime Minister also noted that this is one of the steps of the government's systematic work on demining: "Since February 2022, the area of territories that have been returned to productive use after exposure to explosive objects is already 49,415 km2. For 2025, 21,683 km2 have been returned to productive use." According to the GRIT platform, currently more than 10,000 hectares are simultaneously cultivated and have the status of potentially contaminated. Priority is given to those areas that can be safely returned to circulation.
