SGS took part in a discussion on the environmental aspects of demining

SGS representatives participated in a roundtable on "Environmental aspects of Demining: Challenges and Solutions", organized by the Main Department of Mine Activity, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety.

Those present discussed the environmental impact of mines and explosive objects on the environment.

In particular, the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) gave soil evaluation in the context of artillery and mine activity.

Also presented a pilot project on soil remediation of Mykolaiv region: creation of online map of damaged soils for selection of locations and classification of pollution.

The Geneva Humanities Center has presented modern portable solutions for a comprehensive assessment of the consequences of hostilities.

As a result, the participants of the round table came to the conclusion of the unconditional need for the introduction and application of environmental principles of humanitarian demining of the natural territories of Ukraine. And also, taking into account the environmental standards when planning and defining tasks for carrying out mine activities. An important aspect will be the restoration of environmental components that are damaged by Russia's armed aggression.
