SGS joined the latest Mine Action Cluster meeting: focus on reform, innovation, and coordination

The latest Mine Action Cluster meeting in Ukraine brought together key sector stakeholders — government authorities, international organizations, and mine action operators. The meeting once again served as an important platform for discussing current changes, coordinating efforts, and advancing the development of the sector.

One of the central topics was the proposed amendments to Ukrainian legislation aimed at improving the humanitarian demining system. A presentation was delivered by Dmytro Panshyn, Head of the Humanitarian Demining Unit at the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, who outlined key results and the next steps in state policy in this area.

Participants also discussed changes to the mechanism for compensating the costs of demining agricultural land (Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 284), which is of critical importance for the recovery of agriculture and the national economy.

An important part of the discussion focused on the implementation of the National Mine Action Strategy until 2033 and the update of its operational plan. Progress was also presented on the implementation of a digital tool — the “Donor Platform”, designed to enhance transparency and efficiency in coordinating international assistance.

Other topics included:

  1. the establishment of a scientific platform in mine action to foster innovation;
  2. the involvement of veterans in mine action as an important element of social reintegration;
  3. the results of joint projects between the Ministry of Economy and UNDP.

SGS: “Our company’s position in shaping a modern humanitarian demining system in Ukraine has been and remains proactive. We continue to work on implementing best practices, improving the quality of operations, and developing partnerships for the safe recovery of affected territories.”
