Mine Risk Awareness Week Continues: Focus on Farmers and Agricultural Workers
As part of the Mine Risk Awareness Week, SGS is intensifying its work with farmers and agricultural workers — one of the most vulnerable groups.
While carrying out humanitarian demining operations, SGS specialists simultaneously conduct risk education activities directly on-site. This approach allows practical clearance work to be combined with raising awareness among those who work on potentially hazardous land.
Farmers interact with the land on a daily basis, and it may conceal explosive hazards. Therefore, knowledge of safe behavior is critically important. During these sessions, SGS experts explain how to recognize dangerous signs and how to act correctly when encountering suspicious items.
A key message remains clear: any attempt at self-demining can lead to tragic consequences. SGS emphasizes that all clearance activities must be carried out exclusively by certified professionals with the proper training and equipment.
