International Standards and Ukrainian Experience: SGS Team Completes GICHD Training
Representative of SGS took part in the international training course “Land Release in Mine Action”, organized by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).
The training programme covered the entire land release cycle—from information analysis, non-technical and technical survey to clearance, documentation, and the handover of safe land to communities and land users. Theoretical modules were immediately reinforced through practical exercises at a training site, allowing participants to apply their knowledge in conditions closely resembling real field operations.
This is where international approaches, based on IMAS and global best practices, met Ukraine’s invaluable experience of operating in areas affected by large-scale and complex explosive ordnance contamination. This exchange helped participants deepen their professional knowledge and better understand how international guidance can be effectively adapted to the Ukrainian context.
The training proved valuable not only for non-technical survey specialists but also for other SGS team members, including administrative personnel and management. A deeper understanding of the entire land release process supports better operational planning, stronger coordination between departments, and well-informed, effective decision-making.
