From Mine Risk Education to Pathways of Support
Today, SGS took part in another meeting of the UNDP Protection Cluster.
For us, this was yet another reminder that humanitarian demining is not only about mines — it is about people.
During mine risk education activities, field teams are often among the first to identify vulnerable groups in need of additional support. That is why it is important not only to raise awareness about risks, but also to help communities learn about available support services and referral mechanisms provided by Protection Cluster members.
SGS also plans to approach the Cluster coordinators with an initiative to develop a joint informational brochure on available support services and referral pathways for communities. This would allow SGS specialists to provide timely information during awareness sessions, non-technical survey activities, and community engagement work.
Because sometimes timely access to information can be just as important as physical safety.
